Ultrasound
(Also referred to as Sonography or Sonogram)
Ultrasound is a common diagnostic procedure. High-frequency sound waves are used to "echo," or bounce, off the body to create a picture. For this exam, the sonographer applies a special gel to the skin, and a wand-like instrument (called a transducer) is positioned over it. Sound waves are generated and reflected back to the transducer as electric impulses, which produce an image on a computer screen. A radiologist will review the images and the sonographer's findings to render a report, which will be sent to your physician.
Types of Ultrasound Exams include:
- Pelvic/Transvaginal
- Abdominal
- Obstetrical/Nuchal Translucency Screening
- Small Parts (thyroid, scrotal)
- Breast
- Vascular
- Pediatric Imaging
- Biopsy & Drainage Procedures
