Aquatic Therapy Services
Lawrence General Hospital offers aquatic therapy services at the Andover/North Andover YMCA. Aquatic therapy consists of treatments and exercises performed in a pool setting for rehabilitation purposes. Often performed in warm water, aquatic therapy is a great option for patients who may not be able to tolerate exercise on land due to weight bearing restrictions, severe weakness, and/or increased pain.
Aquatic therapy can be beneficial for patients with a variety of diagnoses including, but not limited to:
- Arthritis
- Back pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Stroke
- Total hip replacement
- Total knee replacement
What will the aquatic therapy program involve at Lawrence General Hospital?
- An initial comprehensive evaluation by a physical therapist to determine if aquatic therapy is the right fit for you.
- Individualized treatment 1-2 times per week for 30-45 minute sessions in our therapeutic pool.
- A progressive program to transition back to land-based therapy and exercise to improve daily function, mobility, and exercise tolerance.
