Today is Nick’s Day

February 04, 2016

4 February 2016 - The driveway at Lawrence General was ablaze with the flashing lights of emergency vehicles early this morning, for a happy reason. They were gathered to surprise Billerica Fire Fighter and Army National Guardsmen Keith McDonald and his family when they arrived at Lawrence General Hospital for seven-year-old Nick’s eye surgery today. A member of the Lawrence General Facilities staff, aware of the boy’s love of fire trucks and fire fighters, military personnel and emergency responders, in general, decided to turn what could be a somewhat scary morning into a positive and memorable one.

Nick was greeted by firefighters in turnout gear, a Lawrence General Hospital ambulance crew, representatives from Keith’s National Guard Unit, and a whole group of Facilities employees with balloons, a stuffed animal and a sign that read, “Today is Nick’s Day.”  As people watched from hospital windows and construction workers looked on from the roof, the little boy, holding a bouquet of Smiley Face balloons, made his way along lines of people wishing him good luck with his surgery.

It was a special way to start the day at Lawrence General Hospital, and we thank the emergency responders and National Guard for making Nick’s day a little bit brighter!
