Lawrence General Hospital this week is proud to receive 172 new state-of-the-art Stryker inpatient hospital beds, aimed at improving our patient experience and setting a new standard in patient comfort and safety.
Thank you to Lawrence Mayor Brian DePena and Rep. Francisco Paulino who joined us for a launch event on Monday, April 14. We send our thanks also to our federal, state, and local partners – including Congresswoman Lori Trahan, Sen. Ed Markey, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren – who helped secure FY24 Congressionally Directed Spending to fund the replacement cost of our aging beds.
Aimed at enhancing patient safety and comfort, the new Smart Beds have Bluetooth connectivity, a streamlined nurse call system, intuitive safety features and touchscreen applications, as well as an advanced mattress designed to minimize risk of pressure injuries. Last month, we applied for similar funding for the purchase of new beds at Holy Family Hospital and again are deeply grateful for the support by our local delegation in supporting awareness of the importance of the funds.
Sen. Markey and Sen. Warren could not attend Monday’s event, but sent the following statement, calling the initiative “critical” for the region. Read their statement below:

April 14, 2025
It’s a great day for Lawrence General Hospital and the people of the Merrimack Valley. We are proud to have worked together with Congresswoman Lori Trahan to secure $2.9 million in federal funding to deliver new, state of the art hospital beds, and we are happy that these beds are coming into service, especially at such a critical moment for the region.
These beds will ensure that Lawrence General continues to provide the highest standard of care to their patients. Enabling this care at LGH could not be more important: the hospital plays an essential role as a major healthcare provider to Medicaid patients in the Merrimack Valley, and remains a regional healthcare leader with the new ownership of Holy Family Hospitals in Haverhill and Methuen. With the arrival of these new beds, every member of our community will continue to receive the high-quality treatment they need with comfort, safety, and precision.
