Lawrence General Hospital is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $90,000 grant over the next three years through the Cummings Foundation’s $30 Million Grant Program. The grant will help the hospital develop a new program that specifically supports prenatal and postpartum education and monitoring for Merrimack Valley-area mothers and babies.
“This grant supports the important work our teams do to care for the unique needs of women in our community,” says Diana Richardson, interim president and CEO at Lawrence General and Holy Family Hospitals.
Lawrence General plans to utilize the funding to create a prenatal and postnatal education and monitoring program for obstetric patients in Greater Lawrence through a maternal health app, remote hypertension monitoring, and lactation support, explains Director of Maternal Child Health Michelle Young, MSN, RN, FNP-BC.
“The Cummings Foundation’s contribution allows us to strengthen our ability to provide essential care to patients in our high-risk community,” Young says. “We are grateful for the Foundation’s longstanding commitment to maternal and infant health.”
The Cummings $30 Million Grant Program supports Massachusetts nonprofits that are based in and primarily serve Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties. Through this initiative, Cummings Foundation aims to give back in the area where it owns commercial buildings, all of which are managed, at no cost to the Foundation, by its affiliate, Cummings Properties. Founded in 1970 by Bill Cummings, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm leases and manages 10 million square feet of debt-free space, the majority of which exclusively benefits the Foundation.
The Foundation has awarded nearly $600 million to date in greater Boston, with $30 million being distributed in 2025. This year’s funds are shared by 150 local nonprofit organizations and are awarded as multi-year grants, paid over either three or 10 years. The diverse group of grant recipients represent a wide variety of causes, including education, homelessness prevention, recycling/waste reduction, affordable housing, violence prevention, and food insecurity.
