Environmental sustainability

Merrimack Health is committed to reducing the environmental impact of health care and supporting healthier communities. Established in 2023, our Green Team brings together staff from across the organization to promote sustainable practices.

Our efforts focus on:

• Reducing medical waste and expanding recycling
• Lowering greenhouse gas emissions
• Reducing single-use plastics and disposable products
• Donating surplus food and medical supplies to support our community and global health care needs

In December 2024, Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital earned The Joint Commission’s Sustainable Healthcare Certification in recognition of its efforts to reduce environmental impact.

Through continued collaboration and practical improvements, we’re working to support the health of our patients, our community and our planet.
