Lawrence General earns gold seal of accreditation from American College of Radiology

July 27, 2022
Lawrence General Hospital is being celebrated for its breast ultrasound capabilities as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Following the American College of Radiology’s review process, Lawrence General was approved for a three-year accreditation and received the ACR gold seal of accreditation, representing the highest level of image quality and patient safety.

The ACR gold seal is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and expert medical physicists.

Lawrence General’s imaging team met these standards after having things like image quality, personnel, facility equipment and quality control and quality assurance programs assessed. Findings were then reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which offered a report on its findings.

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science, and professions of radiological care. The College serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

Lawrence General’s Women’s Health Imaging services provide the latest in digital breast imaging technology in a private, comfortable, and modern facility. In fact, we are the first center in the region to fully adopt 3-D mammography technology, which is available at our South Pavilion location of the main hospital campus and at Andover Medical Center.

3-D breast imaging provides better results, increased image quality, and fewer false positives than traditional two-dimensional technology. Lawrence General offers breast health services that include 3-D mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, and breast MRI.

A physician referral is not required for an annual screening mammogram.
