Lawrence General Embraces 3-D Mammography with Arrival of Renown Expert
Lawrence General has made the transition from traditional mammography to 3-D mammography in Women’s Health Imaging locations on our General Street main campus and at the newly opened Andover Medical Center, on Route 133 in Andover.
At the same
time, we are very pleased to welcome to Lawrence General Dr. Betty Rafferty. Dr. Rafferty is one of the nation’s
leading experts on breast tomosynthesis, a three-dimensional mammographic
technique that provides a whole new way for doctors to examine breast tissue.
It provides more precise views that increase our ability to detect breast
cancers by almost 30%, and invasive cancers by more than 40%. 3-D mammography also reduces the need to bring women back for additional imaging because of uncertain results, further enhancing the care process.
Dr. Rafferty comes to us after years at Massachusetts General, where she has been a highly published expert, and served as Principal Investigator during the development of breast tomosynthesis. She is seeing patients at both Lawrence General locations, and helping us to develop our Women’s Health Imaging program. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Rafferty to Lawrence General!
