Alternative Bundled Payment Options Begin at Lawrence General
September 4, 2015 - Starting on July 1st, Lawrence General launched our participation in an alternative payment method for congestive heart failure patients called the Medicare Bundled Payments for Care Improvement initiative (BPCI). A bundled payment program provides for a budgeted level of expense for a 90-day episode of care for a particular discharge diagnosis, in this case, congestive heart failure.
To date, over 70 patients have been screened and 35 patients have been enrolled into the bundled payment program, which exceeds predictions. The Lawrence General Hospital Transformation team is working collaboratively with nurses, clinical nurse leaders, and other members of the Integrated Care department to ensure these patients receive thoughtful and proactive care planning. We are also working to strengthen relationships with community care providers to meet care goals and maximize wellness in the post-acute environment.
We look forward to an exciting year working to improve quality of care while reducing health care costs for this high risk population!
