New Weight Management & Bariatric Center Opens at Lawrence General
Let Lawrence General Hospital help you achieve your 2013 health goals.
Lawrence General Hospital is pleased to announce the launch of its Weight Management and Bariatric Center, which will offer treatment options, education and support to assist individuals struggling with obesity to achieve their weight loss goals.
The Weight Management and Bariatric Center at Lawrence General Hospital is a comprehensive weight loss program that offers patients solutions, education and support to help reduce the risks of health and achieve weight loss success. The program offers patients a multidisciplinary team of experts who work with patients to identify treatment options so that they may achieve their weight loss goals, through medication, surgery, nutrition education and lifestyle management, so that patients can maintain long-term weight loss and health. Bariatric Surgery has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a successful treatment for obesity in patients unresponsive to other methods of weight loss.
Obesity is a clinical disorder that affects nearly 100 million Americans, and for many, is associated with many other chronic illnesses such as sleep apnea, high blood pressure, heart problems, depression and other medical issues. “Many patients who are severely overweight have struggled with weight loss, and have been unsuccessful in their attempts to achieve their weight loss goals through diet and exercise alone,” states Dr. Abraham Frech, Bariatric Surgeon and Medical Director of the Weight Management & Bariatric Center. “Bariatric Surgery for some is the only proven method to achieve, and most importantly maintain, long-term weight loss.”
The new Center will be led by Dr. Abraham Frech, experienced in Bariatric Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery as well as General Surgery, and has performed hundreds of surgeries. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Dallas, Irving, Texas, and went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the Ponce School of Medicine, Ponce, Puerto Rico. Dr. Frech began his postdoctoral training with a residency in General Surgery at Brookdale University Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, where he served as Chief Resident in 2010. He then completed his training through a clinical fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Frech is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association, as well as a faculty member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeon (SAGES).
